Hoey Dies: Kittanning Ex-mayor
Charles James Hoey, 76 of 515 N. Jefferson St., Kittanning died at 3:35 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 10 1965) at his home. A resident of this community all his life, Mr, Hoey was a former councilman and burgess of Kittanning and a member of Hose Co. No. 1 here for more than 50 years. A son of Patrick J. and Catherine Reilly Hoey, Mr. Hoey was born May 24, 1888 in Kittanning. A retired machinist, he was employed 16 years by Louden Tool Co. He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church here and served for 40 years as secretary of Hose Co. No. 1, S. Jefferson Street. He was also a former secretary of the Firemen's Relief Association. Mr. Hoey also held the distinction of being Kittanning's first mayor, having been the town's chief executive when the title was changed by law from burgess to mayor. He resigned in the summer of 1962 because of ill health. Mr. Hoey leaves his widow Mary Maloney Hoey; one son Charles J. Hoey Jr. of South River. N. J.; three daughters Mrs. Edwin (Maxine) Todd, Mrs Ray (Esther) Enterline and Mrs Lyle (Louise) McCanna, all of Kittanning; one sister, Miss Ruth M. Hoey of Kittanning and 12 grandchildren. A brother, Joseph Hoey, died in 1963. HOEY - Friend, of Charles J Hoey of Kittannlng, who died Sunday (Jan. 10, 1965), will be received after 7 this evening in Amberson Bauer Funeral Home Kittanning, where family visiting hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be sung at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church here, with assistant pastor, Rev Fr. Robert Brannon officiating and burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Kittanning. Arrangements by Bauer.
