George J. Hoey Sr., WWII vet, East Orange fire captain, 78

A Mass for George J. Hoey Sr., 78, of Whiting will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting, after the funeral from the Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals, 66 Route 530, Whiting. Mr. Hoey died Thursday at home. He was a firefighter in East Orange before retiring as a captain in 1980 after 25 years of service. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II. Mr. Hoey was a member of the Ocean County Retired Police and Firemens Association. Born in Orange, he lived in Bloomfield for 20 years before moving to the Pine Ridge section of Whiting 17 years ago. Surviving are his wife, Florence; sons, George Jr., Michael and Bill; a daughter, Valerie Crilley; a brother, Robert, and 10 grandchildren.

Sr., 78, of Whiting, formerly of Bloomfield, on Oct. 3, 2002, beloved husband of Florence (nee Morissey), devoted father of George Jr. of Brick, N.J., Michael of Kirkland, Wash., Bill of Whiting, N.J., and Valerie Crilley of Brick, N.J., dear brother of Robert of Sanford, Maine, and loving grandfather of 10. Visiting hours Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Monday 9:30-10:30 a.m. at "The Family Owned" CARMONA-BOLEN HOME FOR FUNERALS, 66 Route 530, Whiting, N.J., followed by an 11 a.m. Mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church. Burial will follow at New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown. Memorial contributions to Van Dyke Hospice, 1433 Hooper Ave., Toms River, N.J. 08755, would be appreciated.
