14 June 1870 Census:  Arthur Denney 40 trunk maker, Julia 40 keeping house, John 16 hat maker, Thomas 14 tinware maker, Julia A. 12 at school, Mary D. 5 at school.  7th Ward, Newark, Essex County, page 72, line 24.

2 June 1880:  Record from marriage register of St. Pius' Church Harrison, NJ.  Charles J. Hoey; Irish, age 24, Saloon Keeper, Harrison, NJ, son of James Hoey and Ellen McLean of Ireland.
to Julia A. Denny; Native, age 22, Harrison, NJ, daughter of Arthur Denny and Julia Carey of Ireland.
Witnesses: Carles J. Sullivan and Mary A. Schott.
Priest: J.J. Murphy

1880: Family story says that she moved from High Street in Newark to Harrison, NJ with new husband Charles.  Born where present Court House is located.

1880 Census: 39 Harrison Avenue, Harrison, NJ.  Charles J. Hey [sic] 24 (head) and Julia A. 22 (wife).  Charles' occupation listed as "Keeping Saloon" and Julia as "Keeping House."  No children.  Hudson County, Harrison, NJ ED #54, p. 2, Line 2.

1880 Newark Directory: Rogers Bakery at 39 Harrison Avenue, Harrison, NJ.

March 1881:  Daughter Helen "Nellie" Hoey born.

27 September 1882:  Son Arthur C. Hoey born.

5 October 1885:  Husband Charles Hoey died.

After 5 October 1885: Daughter Julia Hoey born.

1886 Newark Directory: Charles Hoey, metalworker, 12 Paterson, East Newark,NJ.

1889:  Mother Julia Denny (nee Carey) died.

1890 Newark Directory: Julia Hoey, widow of Charles, 524 Latham (Central Avenue), East Newark.  Note: Her mother lived at 516 Latham according to the 1880 census.

3 June 1895:  Father Arthur Denny died in Harrison, NJ.

1898: Julia became blind at 40 as a result of unsuccessful cataract surgery on one eye.  Lost vision in the second eye as a result of some eye disease.  Admitted to St. Ann's Home for the Blind at 60 (1918) and remained there for approximately 10 years.

1900 Federal Census: 524 Central Avenue, Harrison, Hudson Co., New Jersey; Vol 29, ED 21, Sht 21, Line 98.

1918:  Approximate date of release from St. Ann's home for the blind.

1920 Census: Rented 47 Fulton Street, Newark, NJ.  Julia Hoey 60 and widowed (head) and 7 boarders. Essex County, ED 138, sheet 3, line79

1930 Federal Census (9-252, sht 14B): Julia Hoey is living at 524 Central Avenue, Harrison, Hudson Co, New Jersey, widow age 72.

1930-June 1935: Married a McGarvey.

27 June 1935: From cemetery records, Julia died at 77 years, 7 months, 8 days of heart disease in Jersey City, New Jersey.  Buried in Grave 2/5 Lot 226 Sect B at Cemetery of Holy Sepulchre on 29 June 1935.  Priest was J. P. Weigard. Undertaker was Bert M. Fay. Tombstone does not read Hoey but it is unclear what it reads.  First husband Hoey, second McGarvey. It is not clear why should would have died in Jersey City. Last known address was Harrison, New Jersey.
