WOMAN DROPS DEAD BESIDE THE CASKET OF HER MOTHER
Special Service of the NEWS
Jersey City, Feb 19-Mrs Teresa Marie Reilly, thirty-six years old, of 81 Zabriskie street, dropped dead by the side of the casket of her mother, Mrs Mary Kennedy, seventy-one years old, in the home of her parents at 186 Fifteenth street, yesterday afternoon. Mrs Reilly had been ill for some time and for a year has been undergoing medical treatment. Her mother died Sunday, and the funeral was set for today.
Mrs Reilly insisted on seeing the face of her mother before the burial and her husband, Daniel Reilly, finally consented to take her to her parents' home yesterday. Mrs Reilly was assisted up the stairs to the Kennedy apartment by her husband and brother, Martin Kennedy. As she stood be the side of the coffin, she suddenly screamed and fell to the floor. A few moments later she expired.
The funeral of the mother was held this morning and that of the daughter has been set for Sunday. She leaves, besides her husband, two children, four and ten years old.

ABOUT TO LOOK ON DEAD MOTHER'S FACE: EXPIRES
Death Deprives Invalid Of Her Last Chance to View Parent's Body
STRICKEN AT THE THRESHOLD OF ROOM
Overcome with emotion on the threshold of the room in which the body of her mother lay in the casket, Mrs Daniel Reilly, 34 years old, of 81 Zabriskie Street, sank to the floor yesterday afternoon and expired a few minutes later.
Mrs Reilly had been an invalid for several years and, being unable to stand the strain of attending the funeral of her mother, Mrs William J. Kennedy, who had died last Sunday, was taken by her husband in a carriage to the house at 186 15th Street yesterday afternoon, that she might at least see her mother's face once again. Providence, however, decreed otherwise. The invalid was laboriously assisted by her husband up the two flights of stairs to the family apartments. She uttered a cry as she beheld the somber trappings of the room of death, with the casket stretched diagonally across the floor, and sank to her knees. Frantic efforts were made to resuscitate the stricken woman, but she had sustained a sudden hemorrhage of the lungs and was dead within three minutes.
Mrs Reilly is survived, besides her husband, by four young children.
The body was removed later in the afternoon to the home in Zabriskie Street.

Mr. Kennedy was 75 years old and was one of the oldest residents of the Second Ward. He was the father of seven sons and six daughters. He is survived by George and Martin, sons, and Mrs Grover Weil, and Mrs. Arthur Hoey, daughters. A second obituary of unknown date and paper.

William J. Kennedy

Old timers of the Horseshoe section, Jersey City, were present in large numbers at the funeral of the late William J. Kennedy, which took place today at 10 o'clock from his home, 186 Fifteenth Street. Following a solemn high mass at Saint Lucy's R. C. Church internment was in the Holy Name Cemetery. Mr. Kennedy, who was one of the largest property owners and prominent citizens of the second ward, died at his late home on Thursday afternoon from blood poisoning. Several weeks ago in paring a bunion on his left foot with a small knife he cut into the skin and later the foot became infected. An operation was advised but he refused to be removed to the hospital for that purpose.

The deceased was 78 years old and a resident of the Horseshoe section for sixty-nine years. He came to Jersey City from his birthplace in King's County, Ireland, with his parent's in 1848. When a young man he started in the grocery and butcher business at the corner of Fifteenth and Grove Streets and amassed a comfortable fortune, his trade extended to all parts of the city. His store became and established institution and landmark in the Horseshoe Section. Several years ago Mr. Kennedy sold the property and retired to private life.

He was a charter member of the Robert Davis, Dennis J. McLaughlin Associations and St. Lucy's Holy Name Society. In the days when civil service was unheard of a letter of recommendation from Mr. Kennedy to the late Democratic leader was a valuable document in the hands of a young man aspiring to any city position.

As a member of the Wolf Tone Society the deceased played a prominent part in the efforts to free Ireland. He was a firm advocate of home rule for Ireland and contributed liberally to the cause. He was the father of thirteen children, four of whom survive. They are two married daughters, Mrs Grover Weil and Mrs. Arthur Hoey, of Harrison; two sons, Martin B. and George P. Kennedy, both well known in the downtown section. Seventeen grandchildren also survive.

William's death certificate indicates that he was buried on 26 February 1917 at Holy Name Cemetery. The doctor signing the certificate is Frank R. Sherwood of 554 Summit Avenue.
